Dear Charlotte, I reading this. Back in 2016 you brought your pocket of stones to the foot of Newtmber Hill at Saddlescombe Farm in the South Downs just outside Brighton. You sent us off to sit with the land and return with our tales. I had sat propped up by an oak overlooking the Devil's Dyke, and the land told me a different story. In the seven years since Newtimber Hill has become my liminal place where I regular sit, create ceremony, remember my ancestors, the ancestors of the land and those buried in the barrows on the hill. They've told me their names, and I return through the year, each year. In 2020 I undertook at all night Utiseta on the Bronze Age barrow. It was powerful.
This solstice I will be sat around a fire with a group of women in the heart of the Sussex countryside.
Hello Serena, Great to hear from you. I remember that Imbolc gathering well and how brilliant it was as a flatlander to feel the chalk underfoot as we climbed the hill. Hope you have a wonderful solstice.in the Downs. Sending all best wishes from the Suffolk oaks and flints, Charlotte
Thank you for the posting. As I missed out on the opportunity to participate in the official Halcyon meetings through Dark Mountain - I decided to cultivate an individual practice - still divulging into the weekly topics and texts associated. It's been a wonderful journey of self and authorial discovery integrating ever more the landscape of Our (mine and my backyards) being.
It emitted itself as a "Fires Forged in the Self" series... Not to self divulge, yet I do publish my works (results) on substack.
Funny enough you mention a timely ritual of Northern AZ, as that is my homes cape. That will break into my consciousness the next week. Funny how little I know about the land rituals I "grew upon".
I will be continually reviewing this writing, as ritual, to invoke the next (and final) Self-Forged-Flame.
